theavox asked: Hello! Firstly, I want to say that you love your blog. Greek mythology is something I love to read about, and I'm hoping to buy some books on it, since I sadly don't own any yet. For your first post, you asked what your followers favorite myths are. It's often hard for me to choose my favorites of any subject. However, I really love the myths of Narcissus, Orpheus, Icarus, the Sirens, and Eros and Psyche. :)

I’m glad you enjoy it! I try to get on as much as I can.. I will be putting more stories up soon! My next will probably be Achilles and the Sirens. (:

Pyramus and Thisbe

Pyramus, the most beautiful lad and Thisbe, the most beautiful maiden in all of Babylon. Two young people, both so in love with each other. They wanted nothing more then to marry and spend eternity together. But, unfortunately for them, their parents did not approve.  Not being able to be seen talking publicly, the two lovers found a hole in the wall linking their two houses together, with that, and their families asleep late at night they whispered sweet loving words to each other. Finally the temptation to hold each other became to much for the two. They needed each other like they needed air. So they came up with a plan to runaway together and elope. They picked a place to meet, a well known place, the Tomb of Ninus, under a tall mulberry tree with snow white berries. As the sun sunk behind the sea Thisbe was the first to get there. She waited, and time began to pass. She thought he would never come, until she saw a figure in the distance, as it grew closer, to her surprise, it wasn’t her love. It was a lioness, covered in blood dragging its kill. The lioness now aware of it being watch stared at Thisbe. Quickly without hesitation, Thisbe ran towards the forest, dropping her cloak as she went. The lioness pursued, stopping to claw, and bite her cloak before going after her. Soon Pyramus came out of breath from running. He smiled broadly as he approached the tree, only to notice Thisbe not there. He looked over, something caught his eye. Looking at the ground he noticed Thisbe’s cloak lying blood stained and tattered on the ground. Guilt, Grief, and despair knocked him onto his knees as tears came to his eyes. Picking up the cloak he went over to the white berried mulberry tree. He left his love alone in the dark, not there to protect her. He then pulled out his sword, and said ” Now, you shall take my blood too “. With that he proceeded to plunge his sword into his side. Little did he know, a distraught Thisbe was making her way back. Scared of the lioness but ready to risk it all for her love. Until she saw him There he was. Lying in a pool of his blood, she looked at him, and he opened his eyes for a split second then died. With determined eyes she said ” Only death ever had the power to separate two people, it will not have it now.” She picked up Pyramus’s sword and stabbed it into her heart. The gods and the lovers parents were pitiful in the end. The deep red fruit of the mulberry tree is now the memorial of the two lovers. The lovers that not even death could part.

Okay, I hope you like the story, and the facts on the Gray Women. I also have another blog. A Potterhead blog ^,^ http://ravenclawsathena.tumblr.com/ check it out. Goodnight !

OlympianPhoenix

The Gray Women, The Grey Hags, THE GRAIAI.

These women dwelt in lands of twilight. The sun didn’t fully shine during day, and the moon didn’t full shine at night. It was always gray. In this place these women lived, withered with extreme old age. They only had one eye to share among themselves. In some stories they had one eye and one tooth. The are said to have birdlike features, or the face and arms of an old women and the body of swans. Some also say they have hag or witch like features. Another name for these are the Gray Hags or THE GRAIAI.

Perseus

King Acrisius of Argos had only one child. A beautiful Daughter named Danae. Though he was proud of her beauty he still longed for a son. He went to a priestess for comfort, but she told him news he wasn’t happy with. He himself will not have a son, but his daughter will, and her son will be the end of Acrisius. That left the King with a decision. He could kill his daughter, or let his fate be sealed. He came to terms that he could not kill his only child, but kept her in solitude. In some stories she was locked in a tower. In this she was put in a house below the ground with the roof open to sunshine and air. Unfortunately for Acrisius that didn’t stop Zues from noticing such a beauty. She bore his son, which of course was eventually noticed by her father. He also could not kill the infant, instead he placed them in a coffin boat. Closing them in and releasing them into the sea. A strange wave carried them to land, said to be Poseidon, obeying orders of Zues to save his son and love. They were then discovered by a man named Dictys, who took the two to his wife. For a long while they lived with them. Until Dictys’s evil brother and ruler of the island, Polydectes, noticed Danae. Still beautiful though her son was now a full grown man. He set Perseus up, talking of creatures called Gorgons. Saying there was nothing in the world he wanted more then the head of one. He  invited many villagers to a wedding celebration, where Perseus came empty handed. Feeling bad he stood on a table announcing though he had nothing, he would kill and bring back the head of Medusa one of the most dangerous Gorgons. He did not know where these Gorgons were, but with the help of Hermes and Athena, he found his way and survived. He conquered the Gray Women and found the way to Medusa’s lair. He barely escaped the other two Gorgons after killing their sister. On his way home he discovered a young maiden by the name of Andromeda, a daughter of a vain women, who was given up to be devoured by a sea monster. He fell in love with her at first sight and set out to save her. After saving her, he asked for her hand and went home with his new wife. While he made it back to his island he found out Dictys’s wife had passed away and Dictys himself was in hiding with his mother, who refused the hand of Polydectes. Finding out where the King was he strode into the great hall, took out Madusa’s head and before they realized what was happening they were turned to stone. Polydectes’s prisoners were set free and he found his mother and Dictys. Together Persues and Danae went to Argos to try and reconcile with Acrisius. They found out he was driven away and in Larissa there was an athletic contest. He went to join. There, in a throwing contest, he threw a bolder, which landed on one of the spectators who turned out to be his Grandfather. Apollo Priestess was right, he died at the hands of his grandson. Only it was anything but on purpose.

(  There are many different telling of this myth, so don’t think its wrong or right… If you would like to share a different one, please send it in! )

P.S this story is very different to what you might be thinking. Lots of changes were made to the particular story, so please don’t base it of of Percy Jackson or Clash of the Titans.

Any questions please ask. I wasn’t totally descriptive with the telling.

It’s Monday, meaning school :( . I am going to post one story tonight, and that is the story of Perseus. I hope you enjoy!

Narcissus

We all should know about Zeus’s affairs. He had a great amount of them. And on occasion he would use a beautiful young nymph named Echo to distract his wife Hera from following him, with gossip and entertaining stories. You should know you will very rarely get away with tricking a god, and their wrath could be deadly, or tortures, only those two. When she found out about Echos trickery she punished her by taking away her voice. Only being able to repeat the sentence of a person. Soon Echo fell in love with a vain youth named Narcissus. The son of the blue nymph Leiriope of Thespia and The River god Cephisus . He was known to leave a trail of broken hearts behind him. Not wanting to have anything to do with romance or love. One day when Narcissus went hunting and pulled away from his hunting party, Echo followed him. She wanted to speak to him, but was unable to. Soon he heard footsteps and he shouted ” Who’s there? ” and she replied ” Who’s there? ” on it went until the nymph burst from the trees to embrace young Narcissus. He pushed her off, rejecting her shrewdly and left her heartbroken. She soon died of a broken heart, but not before Aphrodite, the goddess of love, saw the whole thing happen. She decided to punish Narcissus by telling him to look into a pond full of water, where his reflection showed on the surface. He soon fell as deeply in love with himself as Echo was with him. He spent weeks trying to get to his reflection. Soon dying to of heartbreak. The only thing left of these two, were Echo’s voice, left in caves and steep canyons to repeat men and women’s sentences. And Narcissus’s name, used for vain men and women.
